This is the opposite of the last post. Some of these only “work” once. Once you’ve shared a meal, that’s a milestone, you know? The returns diminish.

20 Ways to Hurt the People You Care About

Here they are! These are great for writing fiction. Have your protagonist do these to the folks she cares about, and then have them do them right back!

  1. insult
  2. raise voice
  3. neglect your duties to them
  4. remind of failures
  5. neglect
  6. leave
  7. harm self
  8. harm something they care about
  9. expose to danger
  10. threaten violence
  11. do violence: push, slap, beat, stab, kill
  12. renounce a shared belief
  13. refuse a genuine gesture
  14. spurn a heartfelt invitation
  15. embarrass them publicly
  16. withhold something they need
  17. provoke to jealousy
  18. lie, and they see through it
  19. break an agreement, implicit or explicit
